File Under: A pilot's story - Author Unknown

A pilot gets home late.............. He left home about 8:30 a.m. to do some work in his hangar at the airport with his friends. On the way out the door he answered his wife's "what time will you be home?" question with "probably about 1:30, I'll have lunch at the airport."

1:30 came & went.

3:00 passed

6:15, still not home.

Finally at about 7:00 pm he rolls in the driveway, and presents his wife with a pizza, and begins the apologetic story. "I finished cleaning the plane about 11:30, had lunch, and I started home, when alongside the road I saw this attractive girl with a flat tire on her car. I stopped to help, got the tire changed, and looked around for a place to wash my hands. She offered money, but I refused, so she suggested that I at least allow her to buy me a beer. She said 'There's a tavern just up the road, and they have a restroom, you can clean up a bit.' I agreed to stop, we had a beer, then another beer, then a couple more, and I realized that this girl was not only pretty, she was very friendly, and a good companion to spend time with. Before I knew it, we were in the motel next door having sex. And that is why I am so late getting home."

His wife looked him right in the eye and said "don't bull shit me, YOU WENT FLYING DIDN'T YOU?"

File Under: Working on that ticket to fly.

I know I haven't been a good little poster for the last week, but I've been a tad bit busy. Starting Wednesday morning, I have been working on finishing up my balloon pilot's license. We managed 6 flights, 5 free flights and 1 tethered. I'm exhausted, but I'm also thrilled, as I'm almost there. I learned some good lessons and did some cool things. My favorites were the Terminal Descents from 35oo and 6100 AGL (above ground level).

However, I've apparently hit a plateau regarding my approach to landing. I tend to over heat, which leads to aborted or rough landings. My instructor has no less goal than, me being able to land in a balloon sized opening in the woods, which is not forgiving on glide paths to approach. Therefore I need some more work and hope to have my license by COMBF.

File Under: It seems I forgot

I thought I had posted the winning name for the balloon, I must have twittered it and forgotten to share here. The winner was Blues Breaker, which is just fine by me. :)

File Under: We have a balloon!

Dad and I traveled to our friend Bill Whelan's place in Ontario this weekend. We went to look at this balloon. We have decided to buy it. Since it is a Canadian registered balloon, it will be a process to import it. I have a poll up for votes on a name, so please vote. I am also am thinking about registration numbers. Maybe N-73EWS?

I can tell you that this has very little to do with flying a real balloon, but it's a good way to kill some time.

File Under: Burner Time

Some pilots have come to the County for the weekend to fly. Unfortunately, God has other plans, he apparently scheduled a snow storm.

Anyway, we managed to get a flight off yesterday, before the weather arrived. I was lucky enough to get into the air with Lopper. Lopper was also kind enough to let me have burner time. It took us an hour and a half to go about a 1/4 mile. We were flying slow and low, with swirling winds. A good time was had by all.

That there balloon would be Jim Rogers new balloon.
