File Under: From this kayaker to the state of Maine..

F#$% YOU! It seems that some of those genius legislators down Augusta way want to liscence every kayak and canoe operator over the age of 16. Are you f'n kidding me? We choose the least impacting way to enjoy Maine's waterways and now you want to punish us for that? Kiss my ass you overtaxing, money grubbing self agrandizing assholes. I have f'n had it with this state. Every time I turn around they're trying to clip me for another thing. I can't wait for them to tax the air I breathe. I believe in conservation, I have the f'n Loon Plates, I pick up trash when I see it. If I hump it up the hill, I hump it back down. That's the way you do it, but this is just ridiculous. You got the money on my f'n kayaks when I bought them. Take that 5% and conserve something you greedy f#$%s.

File Under: Gay Marriage discourse on the Daily Show

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say Jon makes much more sense to me.

File Under: Small victory.

An Alternet piece on the not guilty verdict for the Bangor Six, once again gives me a little faith in the people of Maine.

File Under: Another badly crafted bill for Maine

According to this piece, if Rep Dawn Hill gets her bill through, we are all going to have to be very careful about where we linger with our eyes. The bill will create a statute making "visual sexual aggression" or staring at children illegal. I'm all for protecting children from people with nefarious intentions, but this is stupid.

It is not the place of the police to determine the intention of a look or stare. As the author points out, what if someone is staring, because they believe the children are up to no good. Or is often the case with me, I am watching to make sure the kid doesn't end up dead, because the parents are oblivious. In the end this law is more about the government invading further in to our privacy, into our very minds.

Oh, and to all you guys out there that lingered too long over that 17 year old in the short skirt who looked much older until you got up close, better set aside some money for bail.

File Under: FCC hates to read, asks DOJ for help.

That can be the only conclusion I can draw from its rejection of Fox's indecency appeal. They kicked it back because it was too long. So now they go to court.

As if that wasn't fun enough, now the Department of Justice is filing suit against FOX to get them to pay. All over an extremely stupid show.

As a side note to parent groups. If you are upset that your kids may be watching shows like "Married by America," start watching what your kids are doing and stop filling complaints with the FCC, it's not your nanny.

File Under: Baldacci turns Pussy

It the fight over Real ID, he caved, simple as that.

This combined with his other failures and bad ideas leads me to paraphrase Comic Book Guy, "Worst Governor Ever!"

File Under: Maine has until Tomorrow to get it's Real ID Shit together.

So apparently in a gesture of kindness, DHS head Michal Chertoff has given Maine until tomorrow at 5pm to show more progress toward compliance with the Real ID program. I wonder what the average Mainer will do when told they can't enter federal buildings or fly. This ought to be fun.

File Under: Dancing with a porcupine

Gov. Baldacci is dancing with a Chertoff shaped porcupine. He sent a letter to DHS head Chertoff asking that Maine residents not be penalized after May 11, because Maine hasn't asked for a waiver for REAL ID compliance. This kind of letter resulted in a waiver for Montana. This is good ol political wrangling, it would be fun to watch if our privacy wasn't on the line.

File Under: Fox says no to FCC

These words feel quite odd in my mouth, but I am proud of the Fox Network. They are refusing to pay a $91,000 fine on principle. An odd thing for a Rupert Murdoch company. I am not entirely comfortable with him defending first amendment principles, but certain issues make strange bedfellows.

File Under: And then there were two.

It seems that Maine and North Carolina are the only two states standing in defiance of the Department of Homeland Security. I can't believe that this Real ID thing isn't causing more flak, I guess freedom isn't as precious as we think it is.

File Under: Supreme Court to hear FCC appeal

The Supreme Court has decided to hear the FCC's appeal of a District court decision striking down its fleeting expletive policy. There are only two reasons for the court to want to hear this case. They want to remind the FCC about the first amendment, or they are preparing to wipe their ass with it.

File Under: FCC employees in mourning

I have often wondered if the employees that have dedicated themselves to the original principles of the FCC, have been made miserable by the recent leadership and their actions. I have my answer, Ars Technica reports that there will be a silent protest tomorrow. The story also outlines the issues the FCC employees have faced from a politico boss. Not that is matters, but they have my support.

File Under: Proud to be a Mainer

Dear Mr. Chertoff,

You may think that you are helping by threatening the States that don't comply with your Real ID program. You are mistaken. The State of Maine is full of a proud people, as are the people of New Hampshire, and Montana. I agree with the governor of Montana, we will gladly wait in another line to board a plane as long as we don't have to carry a national style ID. This is not a dictatorship, this is not a cold war era Soviet State, so we say to you, no.

So threaten away and invade someone else's privacy.
